The openings are the point.
This is not simply a decorative checkerboard. The ribbed or perforated profile creates an elevated walking surface while leaving pathways below for moisture and debris. That can be useful in a Utah garage—but the water still needs somewhere sensible to go on the slab.

Long-term ownership
The mess moves below the floor. It still has to be dealt with.
Salt, sand and grit can accumulate below open-profile tile. Periodic washout or targeted lifting is part of realistic ownership. We also check where water actually travels across the slab because tile does not fix bad drainage underneath it.
When tile is not the answer
The floor does not need our favorite system. It needs the right solution.
You want a seamless surface
A bonded flake or clear-protected concrete system may fit better if you do not want joints or openings.
The slab drainage is the real problem
Tile can move water below your feet, but it cannot correct a slab that sends water to the wrong place.
You want the concrete itself to be the finish
Stained or densified concrete may be the more direct solution.
