Project Highlight: Failed Integral Color I

“WOW! It’s like I’m walking on a piece of ART!”

-Happy Customer (walking out for the final inspection)

This homeowner had some concrete poured the year prior and it was supposed to be a light terracotta color (Think light orange-ish terracotta tile roof with a little bit of red in the color.

The only catch was that the color came out a shade of LIGHT PINK!

This was not going to fly so they gave us a call to stain the concrete to what it was intended to be. Since more options were on the table they decided to add some extra elements for a faux finish to tie in the wood and metal in the backyard(that had some rusty patina to it).

Preparation went smoothly, the only catch was the owl(s) that saw the fresh - clean concrete and decided to use the surface as their own personal lavatory (ewww…) the night after it was pressure washed.

Prior to staining, the homeowners and I looked through a number of photos to find color combinations that they liked. Additionally, we looked at styles that they liked and didn’t like. This helped us nail down the color palette to work from and what style we were going to apply with the faux finish. After the base coat was applied and a test section was applied with the translucent stains, they came out to give direction and feedback. We identified an area that they loved so we continued on staining the rest of the area with that approach and color combination.

This was one of many really fulfilling projects that had an amazing outcome, looked great, and most importantly the homeowner loved.
